Parent Information

Parent Orientation Program

MIT Parent Orientation will take place on Sunday, August 27 and Monday, August 28.  Parent Orientation is a great way to get a glimpse of the many different experiences that your student will have an opportunity to explore at MIT.  Some of the events that will be offered include the President’s Convocation and panels addressing various aspects of MIT life, including academics, health and safety, student life, and athletics.  You are also invited to our annual Jazz Night event on Sunday, August 27 where you will have the opportunity to meet other parents and families and ask questions of some of the administrators who specifically support programming for first-year students.  You will also have a chance to talk with Parent Connectors (parents of current MIT undergraduates) and upperclass students.

Parent Orientation Schedule

The complete Parent Orientation schedule will be posted here in mid-July.  For planning purposes, the first events begin on Sunday, August 27 at 1pm and the final event ends on Monday, August 28 at 5pm.

In addition to the on campus orientation events, we also offer families the opportunity to purchase Old Town Trolley Tickets that can be used during your time at MIT.  Costs are as follows: Adult - $29; Senior/Student - $28; and Child - $15.  These tickets can be used anytime, and the trolley operates on a hop-on, hop-off schedule with pick-up locations convenient to the MIT campus.  If you would like to purchase trolley tickets, please have your student indicate that on the Orientation Registration Form.

Registering for Parent Orientation

We do ask that parents and families register for Parent Orientation.  Your student can do this via the Parent Orientation section on the Orientation Registration Form that must be completed by August 1.

Parent Orientation Purchases

There are two items that can be purchased as part of Orientation.  The first are Old Town Trolley tickets (described above), and the second is a panoramic photo of the Class of 2021. The class photo is taken during orientation, and students will be emailed when the photos are available for pick up on campus.  Photos are not mailed.

If you are interested in either of these items, please be sure your student indicates so on the Orientation Registration Form.  Payments can be made via check made out to MIT Orientation and mailed to:
